Chief of the Paris Fire Brigade


Born on the 23rd of november, 1964 in la Roche-Sur-Yon (85). He incorporated the special military school of Saint-Cyr in 1985, then the engineering school in Angers in 1988. After military school, he chose to serve at the Paris Fire Brigade in 1989. Until 1996, he successively held the position of chief of the Fire Guard, second in command and unit commander in the 10th, and then in the 7th Fire & Rescue Battalions.

Then he joined the armed forces where he alternated between periods as an analyst, chief of the regional center's crisis zones, and chief of short term operational missions.

He incorporated the headquarters' superior course in 1999, then the inter-army college of defense. Simultaneously, he pursued courses at Ecole Pratique des Hautes Études (EPHE) where he passed a master's degree in strategy. Besides, he holds the certificates of the courses “management disaster”, at the Commanding of the Inside Front in Israel, and “leadership under pressure” at Harvard Kennedy School.

In 2002, he was assigned as first secretary near the French Embassy in oriental Africa for three years, in order to deal with the various regional crises : RDC (particularly the Artemis operation) Bunrundi, Soudan, LRA, etc.

Named Colonel on the first of december 2005, he came back to the Paris Fire Brigade as deputy chief of the Steering Management and Audit Office, before taking charge the following year. He was given the triple mandate to optimize the modes of operation as well as the firefighter's equipment for thermal phenomenons, to improve the safety of the participants and to develop the caution doctrine of the attacks, particularly in case of simultaneous and complex attacks. He then occupied the positions of corps chief of the first unit fire & rescue, in charge of the northern and eastern Parisian as well as the Seine Saint Denis from 2007 to 2009. During this period, he was led to take the command of rescue operations on major interventions several times.

From 2009 to 2015, he held the functions of deputy, then chief of the department in charge of the geopolitical crisis management, in the armed forces. Beyond the crisis management from Paris, he went again on several short term operational missions. Then he went to Afghanistan for a long period, from 2011 to 2013.

On the first of august, 2015, he joined again the Paris Fire Brigade as second commander. For two years, he was in charge of the operations, of the forecasting, of the steering management, of the international relationship and of the interministerial coordination. He was named brigadier general in september 2016 and took command of the Paris Fire Brigade on the first of September, 2017.

He is fluent in English and Russian and has understanding of Kiswahili and Dari.

He is an officer of the Legion of Honour and received three military citations. He is the holder of the silver level medal of the National Defence as well as 5 medals for Deeds of Courage and Devotion (vermeil, two 1st class silver and two bronze).


  • The Paris Fire Brigade is a military unit of the army placed under the authority of the préfet de Police.
  • It is charged with protecting assets and people and struggling against fire on its area of operation : Paris, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne, airports of Paris-Orly and Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulles.
  • It is the most important firefighter corps in Europe and the third in the world after Tokyo’s and New York’s.

PFB 2016 statistics:

  • 8 500 men and women with 600 on secondment ( Guiana Space Center in Kourou, Directorate General of Armaments in Biscarrosse, etc) ;
  • 6 000 calls a day at the emergency call center ;
  • 1 308 departures a day, being 1 departure every minute on average ;
  • 477 552 interventions ;
  • 27 559 saved lives.
