The Paris Fire Brigade is in charge of Paris, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis and Val-de-Marne, i.e. approximately 7 million people.
With 8,600 men and women, the Paris Fire Brigade is the largest fire brigade in Europe. Over 70% of young recruits come from the provinces.
The Brigade intervenes when Paris is in danger:
- The Brigade’s operating area of the Brigade covers three quarters of the high-rise buildings in France as well as the deepest underground premises. Paris firefighters are increasingly faced with the urban technological hazards involved by today’s modern mega-cities.
- Large urban transportation infrastructures are another significant risk factor. The Brigade is in charge of Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Paris-Orly and Paris-Le Bourget airports. Paris is the first French port for freight and passengers with the Seine and its tributaries.
