The 3rd Rescue and Fire Regiment

The 3rd Fire and Rescue Regiment defends the West of Paris and the Hauts-de-Seine department (headquarters: Courbevoie-La Défense).

Created in 1968 as “West group”, it became the 3rd group in 1972. It covers the Western third of Paris, Hauts-de-Seine and a small part of Val-de-Marne (240 km2). It is made up of 9 companies and headquartered in Courbevoie in La Défense district.

With its 1,761 men and women (40 officers, 300 non-commissioned officers and 1,500 soldiers), the regiment defends a very diverse area with a population of 2.8 million inhabitants. It covers most of the most famous sites of the capital, i.e. the Effel tower, the Champs-Elysées, the Hôtel National des Invalides or the Palais Bourbon, all places were many events take place e group covers also many ministries, most of which in the 6th and 7th arrondissements. The district of la Défense which hosts the highest concentration of high rise buildings (IGH) in France, most of them head offices of major companies, poses important operational problems, given the complexity of the site and the national economic interests at stake.

In the North of the sector several major industrial and petrochemical sites are located. The area covered by the regiment keeps evolving, which entails growing risks.
